The new citizenship law takes effect
The knowledge requirement becomes part of the conditions for Swedish citizenship. Applications assessed after this date fall under the new rules.

The Sverige i fokus study guide is available
The guide can be downloaded free of charge as a PDF with audio files per chapter. UHR writes that the test is based on it. A corrected version was published on 10 August 2026.

Registration for the first sitting
The registration window and the venue are published by UHR ahead of each sitting. Registration for the August 2026 test closed well before the test day. When a new sitting opens, you have to register again.

First official test sitting
The test took place on the morning of 15 August 2026 at Stockholmsmässan, and it was free of charge. UHR says the result will be published during the autumn. The next test date is not announced.

A fee for the citizenship test
Under section 6 of förordning (2026:451), the person who takes the test pays 2 000 kronor to UHR. The fee applies for the first time to tests held in 2027. It does not apply to you if you are stateless and have been granted refugee status or a travel document by a Swedish authority.

The Swedish language test is due
The reading and listening test must be held no later than 1 October 2027. The government's decision says Stockholm University judged autumn 2028 the earliest. It does not affect the society test that applies now.
