The first citizenship test (medborgarskapsprovet) is on 15 August 2026. Registration for it is already closed. If you did not get a place, you have to wait for the next test.
The honest answer to when that next test is: not announced yet. Universitets- och högskolerådet (UHR, the Swedish Council for Higher Education) runs the test, and so far only the August 2026 date is set.
What UHR has confirmed
- The test on 15 August 2026 covers samhällskunskap (basic knowledge of Swedish society).
- Registration for that test is closed and cannot be reopened.
- The test is being introduced step by step.
- A separate Swedish language test comes later, no later than 1 October 2027.

What is not decided yet
UHR has not published the next test dates. It has not said which cities will hold the test, how many places there are, or how often it will run after August.
The fee for a later test is also not set. UHR has said the August 2026 test is free, but not what the next one will cost.
What to watch
Only UHR opens registration. Watch its official page, which we link from our book the test page. When a new date opens, that is where it will appear.
Do not pay anyone who claims they can reserve a place for you. No third party can book the test, and there is no waiting list to buy your way onto.
Whether you need the test at all, and any exemption for your age or situation, is for Migrationsverket (the Swedish Migration Agency) to decide in your case. We will update this article when UHR announces the next date.
