How do I apply for Swedish citizenship — cost and processing time?

Adults apply to Migrationsverket, usually through the e-service on Min sida, and attend an identity meeting at a Migrationsverket office. The application fee for adults is SEK 2,900 (some stateless people are exempt). There is no fixed processing time — check the current fee and waiting time with Migrationsverket.

Updated

  • Apply online through the e-service on Min sida — you need a Swedish e-ID, a valid email address and a Visa or Mastercard. A paper form is available if you cannot use the e-service.
  • Book and attend an identity meeting at a Migrationsverket office (e.g. Malmö, Göteborg, Norrköping, Sundbyberg, Sundsvall or Boden).
  • The application fee for adults is SEK 2,900; some stateless refugees are exempt.
  • Migrationsverket does not promise a fixed processing time — it depends on whether the case needs investigation and whether your documents are complete.

Fees and waiting times change. Check the current fee and the current average waiting time with Migrationsverket before you apply — and avoid second-hand figures on processing time.
