PDF and audio

The material is free and lives on UHR's site. Here is what exists, how to get hold of it, and how to use the PDF and the audio together when you study.

Sverige i fokus is available as a pdf and as audio files on UHR's page uhr.se/medborgarskapsprovet/utbildningsmaterial. It is free, it needs no login, and it is the only version you need — the test is built on this material.

We do not host our own copy of the file. The material is UHR's, and a copy somewhere else goes stale the day a new edition appears without you noticing. Download it from UHR and you know you are reading the version the test is based on.

The Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) produced Sverige i fokus together with the National Agency for Education (Skolverket), commissioned by the government. The first edition is 48 pages long and has 13 chapters, from the country of Sweden to traditions and celebrations.

PDF or audio — and when to use which

The material exists in both formats precisely because they are used differently. The pdf is what you read sitting down, with room to take notes. The audio is what you use on the bus, in the kitchen, or when your eyes are tired. There is one audio file per chapter, so you can revisit a section without scrubbing through a recording.

  • Read the chapter in the pdf first, with paper beside you. Write down the numbers that recur — years, counts, percentages.
  • Listen to the same chapter later the same day. What you do not recognise is what you have not learned.
  • Read and listen at once if the Swedish is the hard part. Seeing and hearing a word together fixes both the meaning and the pronunciation.
  • Remember the test is in Swedish. Explanations in your own language help you understand, but the Swedish words are the ones you meet on the day.

Once you have read a couple of chapters it is worth testing what stuck. Our 30-question practice test reports your score per chapter, so you can see which section to reread rather than starting over.
